I like indie, jazz, blues, punk, metal and singer songwriter stuff. I'm not sure about any festivals / gigs and new bands, becasue I moved from the UK to China just over a year ago and have been unable to keep up to date with anything that's happening. I was wondering if you could tell me about any of your new discoveries. I'm interested in underground guitar music in the UK and Europe. I don't want to know any NME cover story band or anything other band in the NME in fact, I want to know "real" indie. Please keep me alive.

Is there a Jazz/Blues scene in China? I know that it's somewhat popular in Japan and HK. It's not too bad if you have broadband and can access net radio stations of your choice genre.

    Bishi,

If you have broadband or at least 50K dialup connection... you should tune in to CKUA radio. It is an independent radio station (listener supported) with a strong internet presence. Based in Alberta, Canada, its has a good mix of musical genre from acid jazz to world music. They play some retro stuff one in awhile, but also some up and coming indie ones too. Check it out.

I love Radiohead, The Darkness, Foo Fighters & David Gray.

Saw radiohead in Dublin at the start of last month and they were abosolutely fantastic!

I listen to all sorts of music, as long as they sound good. One minute I could be listening to 50 Cents, the next it could be Sarah Mclachlan, and moments later it could be Linkin' Park, and then S.E.S followed by Bob Carlisle.

The only kind of music that I simply cannot take is grunge - I simply don't like all that noise and shouting.

My current leaning is towards songs from the 80s such as Atlantic Starr, Toto, Johnny Hates Jazz, Surface and Karyn White. Oh, MJ too. :D It was an era where the music was simple and honest and a tad more sanitized. I grew up listening to the music of my brothers in the 80s, so I tend to surprise a lot of my older collegues when they knew about my inclination towards the 80s.

Oh, Kitaro's and Nubuo Uematsu's FF music are awesome. ;)

'American Idol' Reject Idolized by Web
    1 hour, 56 minutes ago
    February 20, 2004

By MICHELLE LOCKE, Associated Press Writer

BERKELEY, Calif. - The "American Idol" judges said William Hung bombed with his gotta-see-it-to-believe-it rendition of Ricky Martin (news)'s "She Bangs."

But rejection turned out to have a silver — maybe even platinum — lining. In the weeks since he got booted by the TV talent show, the 21-year-old Hung has become an insta-Net celebrity, sought after by talk shows, record producers and Idol dreamers everywhere.

I like the type of early 90s alternative, and basically pop-ish rock. My favorite bands have been Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind, Savage Garden, and Gin Blossoms. I also like punk rock like Ataris and Lagwagon. I also like Offspring a lot but I can't really classify them into anything. The funny part is my favorite song is Pachelbel's Canon. Good old classics ^^

I don't know... lots of good music out there so I can't really pick something I like the best. It really depends on what mood I'm and stuff like that so it changes a lot. I listen to pretty much everything (except very little rap and country).

don't HAVe a cd/player. not even a cassette player. bbut i DO have a radio. :D :D (this icon is irritating me.. from now on, it will only represent a wide smile in my posts!) i'm fine with songs which have nice beat to them, slow ones (but not too), ones with rich tunes/ sung with rich voices. ..

no to swearings being part of lyrics, plain singing, ashley simpson, ryan c., and at least a third of the current HK young singers.
