As expected, Tommy failed yet again in the match that matters. I just don't get it..it has been 2 years since he's in Pelatnas and he still has stamina problems when the match lasted in 3-sets?? I watched him losing to a Malaysian junior in the Singapore Satellite exactly for the very same reason....he basically looked spent in the last set
After 2 easy matches, Wifqi Windarto/Afiat Yuris Wirawan will face a stern test against the TPE pair of Chen Hung-Ling/Lin Yu-Lang. In terms of experience, Wifqi/Afiat definitely are inferior to their opponents. As for Fernando Kurniawan/Lingga Lie, they clear their first hurdle in the veteran NZL pair, up next will be the MAS uncle-pair of Cheah Soon Kit/Ong Beng Tiong. I think the INA pair will need to impose their authority right from the very start. Can we have an all-INA Final on Saturday? Very unlikely (esp for Wifqi/Afiat), but, let's just hope it turns out like that.
CSK/OBT. rock n roll.... but their journey sure end in semi... coz of speed and stamina but please prove me wrong...
What is MAS veterans' weapon (aside of experience) they can go all the way into semi? Never watch them playing. There's 1 generation gap between they and me.
If the Kiwis can steal one set from them and the fact that they were forced to deuce twice yesterday, I think Edo/Lingga can beat the veteran MAS pair.
CSK/ OBT used to be Malaysia most lethal weapon in the late 80s... OBT is an all round player, he can play singles too... CSK is one of the most talented doubles player for Malaysia he used to pair with Soo Beng Kiang and their combination clinch the winning point for Malaysia in the 1992 Thomas Cup final against Rexy Mainaky and Rick Subagja... after that he moved to partnering Yap Kim Hock and won the 2000 Olympic Games silver medal loosing to Rexy/ Ricky...
both players add up the age is over 80 years old if the INA pair cant win...then it will be the biggest upset in NZ Open.. if MAS pair can drag to 3 sets, is consider big achievement for them...
The uncles vs the eletes from NZL.. this was a hillarious match, it was more like an exhibition match but.. it was VERY entertaining!! Old men diving and jump-smashing, and arguing with the umpire saying that the shuttle went through the net... .. I will upload a video of it soon!!
I don't think you can them uncles. That would place them in the same level as CTF/LWW. You'd have to elevate CSK/OBT another level, to grand-uncles.
LOL, LOL, grand-uncles, LOL. CSK = 40 this year, OBT as I recall is older (there's no DOB of Ong in Wikipedia), so 40++ y.o. coaches playing, . And yes, CSK/Yap KH won the OG silver in 1996. They lost to Rexy/Ricky. Tony/Chandra won the OG gold in 2000
Wifqi-Alfiat has a 48% chance of winning tomorrow... They have been practicing with the big boys, Kido-Hendra, Rian-Yoke, Bona-Ahsan, Alven-Hendra, Joko-Rendra etc in the last month... They have improved... As for Edo-Lingga... errrr... I have not seen Cheah Soon Kit-Ong Beng Tiong play since the 1990s!!! ...I have no clue on how to evaluate their chances...
We shall see...anyway, Wifqi/Afiat are still pretty young, so, a long road for them before they can be contender for INA top MD pairs, with so many pairs ahead of them in the pecking order (including Edo/Lingga) I won't worry much abt Wifqi/Afiat's future..... Edo/Lingga will need to prove themselves by winning their first GP title and if they can achieve that in Auckland this week, they should try to achieve even better results next year, with more participation in the GP Golds and a couple of SS events (Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore).
Some players threw their racquets.. 1) John Moody had the chance to continually attack Sairul Ayob.. then he tried killing by the net, and the shuttle went out.. so he threw his racquet up which nearly hit the ceiling.. it landed on the floor and suprisingly, it didn't break. Both Moody and Ayob had a laugh and a smile, then continued with their game. 2)CSK broke the strings on his racquet during the game.. he threw the racquet to Sairul Ayob who was sitting behind the court, and Ayob threw back a newly strung racquet and the uncles continued to play, winning the rally..
