yonex expensive in England?

I don't know why Yonex UK is setting such a high price for their products (including tennis, golf and badminton equipment). Maybe the running cost of the company is much higher than the other countries? Yes, I agree with you, totally. With GBP59.99, I can get the AT700 in Hong Kong with string, although it is unfair to compare the UK price to the lowest possible price on Earth without any VAT, you can still see the huge difference. I can break my racket and buy a new one in HK without sheding a drop of tear, but here? No!

I haven't had any experience with after sales service with Yonex UK, yet. I hope it is good, like damage returns, warranty etc etc. Otherwise it would not justify the high price in the UK.

 

Yeah, I for one do not really fully understand the justification of high prices, hence, I decided to stop buying yonex. One could argue that its partly due to the high taxation. We have high import costs, VAT/custom and duties etc. However, when you think about it, the rest of the world get comparitively poorer quality products compared to the stuff that Japan produces and sells within their own borders, yet, the prices in the UK are higher than that of Japan (FOR LESS Quality!)

It's daylight robbery if you ask me. I do have to add that when buying from an authorised Yonex dealer in the UK, that the quality is very good. I've not had a problem with breakage or poor manufacturing to date, so buying from abroad is a risk because you are not 100% sure about other distributional quality of the yonex line. That is probably one reason why it is so much cheaper, maybe slightly less quality, coupled with lenient tax laws etc etc.

I have heard in many instances that Asian countires in particular are putting higher taxation on european goods, which could well be another reason for high prices.

Just don't forget that the UK has always been an expensive place to buy. If you were living in Japan, you would feel the same, or any country for that matter.

Inflation, coupled with a rise in GDP is an indication of high prices. The average GDP of UK compared to greece is higher and the inflation of the UK rises in conjunction. However when you take the GDP of the UK and then look abroad where there inflation is lower, prices then seem much cheaper, though the greeks would think otherwise due to having a lower average wage.

The £60 for the MP29 is the RRP - which is the price that JJB sports etc sell the rackets for.

The MP29 is available for £39 at the specialist badminton stores - Direct sports, central sports, cramp sports etc.

However, even at the discounted rates that the specialist shops offer, you can still get yonex rackets at a cheaper price elsewhere, especially in Asia.

 

Slided, yes, IT IS DAYLIGHT ROBBERY! Although it is getting slightly better for electronics, gadgets nowadays compare to, say, 10 years ago. I think there is always pressure from online/overseas purchases where you can buy your rackets from Europe plus the p&p on top and still cheaper than in the UK. There are risks involved, you may need to pay the custom/VAT if you get it from outside the EU, you may get fakes, you don't have local warranty (which is the lest of all the problems).

GDP is not an excuse, you get the cheapest rackets in HK and Hong Kong is not exactly the cheapest city in the world to live in, it ranks the 5th among the world's most expensive cities this year, just after Moscow, London, Tokyo and Seoul. So it is really a rip-off for everything that we get in the UK. The thing is, people here don't complain about the high price that they are paying locally and they just do not realise that people of the rest of the world are paying much less for similar or better produces.

Another factor is the lack of competition between companies/manufacturers/retailers. They all sell their goods with pretty much similar prices. We lack parallel imports, UK people generally have the fear that these 'grey imports' do not have warranties and may break down much easier. Hence the demand of parallel import is generally low, whereas in some countries like the US (and Hong Kong), shops DO offer their own warranty for their grey imports. We need this kind of services in the UK to make things competitive and keep the price low.


P.S. Slidedbanana, where about do you play in Cambridge? I sometimes stay in somewhere around the CB1 area during the weekend.

 

I currently reside right near the city centre. About a 10 minute ride away (CB2 area). When i do play, as I'm mostly situated in the coventry area (warwick uni), I play either in the The Leys private school or in Sawston village college sports hall, which is quite bad ...

I usually play in Sutton. Our hospital has a hall over here. Sometimes I go up to Cambridge for the weekends. I am just wondering if there are any good places for playing there!

 

britain charge stupid prices for rackets...

it works out for example when the Yonex 8000 came out.... GBP£199!!!!

lucky for me i knw many people that sold them 4 aroun £75-£125!

 

Yonex is hugely over priced here in the UK. I looked at the price of the Yonex Precision 5 racquet stringing machine and it is priced between £5,500 and £6,000 in the UK. Google a price in US dollars and there are places selling it overseas for $4,100 (i.e. the equivalent of £3,300). How can an identical Yonex product be £2,200 - £2,700 more expensive here? Yonex do not deserve to sell any here at all with that level of overcharging.
