Woohoo! Nice one Praveen and Melati! I'm so happy to see Melati especially to finally win a major title. I believe she's improved a lot now eventhough she may still not to the level of debby. Actually, the thais are also my new favorite mixed pairs so, whoever wins between them indos and thais, i'm happy just the same
Jordan smash doesn't seem that fast relative to other players according to the measure at the tournaments. of the measurements shown in video, didn't see 1 number over 350 kph by both teams. Jordan around 300 - 340 kph range. in same tournament Gideon Kevin vs Ahsan Setiawan, in video, many measurement over 370 kph, sometimes over 400 kph from both teams.
That's what I always wanted to understand. Then again he is smashing in XD not in MD. I wonder if his smashes would have same effect against Endo/Watanabe.
Since his smashes seem slower, the only advantages he could have are: 1. if he reaches the shuttle slightly faster due to being taller than shorter players so the defenders have less time to get into position 2. he places the smashes into better area which are harder to defend Alternatively, maybe a slower smash could be harder to defend for some reason such as the defender's body not used to the different speed and timing or something. Otherwise, I would say he would be less effective than current Gideon and Kevin against Endo/Watanabe
This is hardly convincing. Maybe we should ask Watanabe whose smash is harder to return but seriously, Jordan’s smashes appeared deadly. It’s puzzling to me the measured speed came out lower.
Source for this? Goh V Shem has hit 419, Fu Haifeng 409 and various other examples I have. When did Praveen hit 404? Also this list is outdated (before 8 Sep 2017) and only for PBL but seems it is not consistent with your list at in some places 11:55
Who is this facebook group? Anyways, considering some of those speeds are correct, probably Jordan's 404 is correct. But from which match? Doesn't seem he consistently hit that fast judging from other matches I've seen.
You know what, because Jordan would like to go out at night, so that he can get 100% power at night in compared with other players who have to struggle with time zone in Europe. J/K
Nan this list is outdated as I know Momota hit something over 400kph a few times. And Goh V Shem only 399kph? Lol no. Also Endo isn't in there.
Maybe his smash is better in terms of weight of shot? Rather than pure pace. I never thought it was that exceptionally fast, if we compare to ZSW or WYL, but somehow they’re terrified of his smash
Frankly I think Jordan’s smash power is a tad overrated by the commentators. It’s a very strong smash, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t see players struggling with it significantly more than comparables like Zheng Siwei and Wang Yilyu. They still have to set up the rally before his smash can be a winner, otherwise players still can get it back. Additionally, what I believe adds to that perception is that he possesses the only smash that can threaten the Chinese XD defence. Other nations top XD pairs don’t quite have that power, so when we see the Chinese defence unusually threatened, it contributes to the perception that Jordan’s smash is supremely strong. What I believe that the commentators got right though, is his amazing forearm power. His backhand drives and certain flicks at the front court are really something quite special, that not even Siwei or Yilyu can produce as well (If we want to see a smash power above its generation, go back to watch FHF AE 2007 matches, the moment FHF got a lift, you could be almost certain the upcoming smash would be a winner, regardless of how well positioned the opponents were)
