Just heard on news at 1350GMT that the Hashim brothers have reached tje men's singles final. This means that msia will have it's first AE SINGLES CHAMPION SINCE 1966. At the moment there is no tlecast in Msia but they are showing the FA cup between Man U and Arsenal. Proves one thing, live telecasts are a matter of economics, not politics.
Hazif bt Chen Yu by 15-12, 15-12 but Chen Hong vs Hashim is still in progress and Chen is leading 6-1 in first game..... ???
whizkelv, judging by your posts on the all england, i presume you are a malaysian. i'm just wondering why you're so against anyone from the nusa stable? if what bbn has posted about both hashim brothers making it to the final, shouldn't you be proud that a player from your country is going to win the ellusive AE for the first time in more than 30 years?!!? i guess you're not alone in your sentiment (of resentment for the nusa players) and i was wondering if you or anyone else can explain this to me... i'm happy as hell! why aren't you?!
Well, if that's the case, Misbun Sidek is going to be conferred a "Datuk"ship title... The Hashim brothers will greeted as national heroes, going on national parade.. and a likelihood that Monday will be decleared as public holiday!
libra, well, let's see what will happen in Malaysian badminton over the next 2 months, prior to the WC. let it do the talking.... we'll see...
OOps. I think RTM goofed again. That is exactly what they announced. Of course Double is corrct as he is watching it live in HK. RTM has goofed 2nd time, yesterday it announced that Hafiz lost to Yong. My apologies to everyone, lucky people in HK.
Confirmed! Hafiz Hashim bt Chen Yu 15-12, 15-12 in 48 minutes... libra, u can get your champagne ready now...
the first time i was hafiz playing was at the singapore open 2 year ago (he lost of taufik). i remember commenting that he is a player for the future and his results show that he is slowly getting there. he's beeten chen hong the last couple of times they played, he won the commonwealth gold beating Wong CH and Lee TS in tight 5 set matched and he also got a crucial point against china during the thomas cup. these all show he's got potential. i just hope he dosen't end up like his brother. that's right, i personally think roslin sucks. his temprement off the court like the excuses he give for losing a match are reminescent of things sore losers say. but that's beside the point. i'm sure i had a point... oh yes, i wanted to say that to win an international you have to be someone of considerable talent/skill. at this all england people can say that they had good draws, 'extra' help from the coach etc etc but it one of them is to win it, i'd say they deserve to win because he was the only undefeated player and the best player of the week. so whoever it is (who wins or loses), i'd avoid assuming politics and racial preferences until proven so.
Agree.... fully agree with your point. That's why i'm benching myself to watch development in the next few months do the talking
Looking at the score (I do not get to see the match in the IUS), the first set was close, but Roslin ran out of steam in the second shot (or Chen Hong got hot). All the other finals are possible countryperson ties except for the Men's singles final. Ron
Ran out of steam? Perhaps not physically but mentally. Roslin is a superbly fit player. CH is a much smarter player than that of 2 years ago. My guess is that the coach saw some weakness of Roslin and CH was able to exploit it, tactically and mentally. The men's final will be a treat if both play as well as expected. The timed explosive power of CH with speed against the craftiness of Hazif. Wonder how important the netplay will be in this match. Not sure of Hazif's netgame but it may be one area where CH can exploit.
Hafiz has beaten Ch in their last 3 meetings. In Asian games Hafiz avoided playing CH at net but kept him pinned at the base. In 1 tournament Hafiz sent Ch out with an injury that put him out for months. I think Ch may start with an explosive pace as in Sing Open agaist Ronald, to engage Hashim brothers in long rallies would be no advantage.I think the game will be highly tactical.Msians will not be able to see any of the AE footage this year because of sponsorship problems. Hafiz however is no where near when playing Xia or Taufik.
