Not too bad for Singapore with finalists in 8 events. Good luck guys and gals. Thailand is by far the strongest with 12 finalists and at least 2 titles - BSU17 and BSU15, already in the bag, followed by Indonesia with 9. It is also good to see Taiwan (GDU19 and BDU17), Philippines (BDU11) and HongKong (GSU13) represented in the finals as well.
Altogether, there are 18 events. Team INA won 5 titles: GD-U13 - Lya Ersalita/Ruselli Hartawan GS-U17 - Dian Fitriani GD-U17 - Shella Devi Aulia/Anggia Shita Awanda BD-U19 - Subhan Hasan/Agripinna Prima -- they do not disappoint me! GD-U19 - Eri Octaviani Adriyana/Dian Fitriani -- Dian Fitriani won 2 titles and she is technically only U17! Surprisingly, INA is dominant in GD, winning in 3 out of the 4 events! Team SIN - 5 titles (3 of them in GS) Team THA - 4 titles (3 of them in BS) Team MAS - 1 title Team PHI - 1 title Team HKG - 1 title Team TPE - 1 title Not bad...not bad at all for our Juniors!
Finals Results http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/s...E1E176-3493-4131-888D-D7DEA10E399D&d=20091220 SIN and INA tied with 5 titles each. SIN won BS19, GS19, GS15, BD15 and GS11. INA won GS17, GD19, BD19, GD17 and GD13. THA came in third with 4 titles in BS17, BS13, GD15 and BS15. And the following countries won one title each: MAS - BD13 HKG - GS13 TPE - BD17 PHI - BS11 Hope all participants enjoyed the competition and made many new friends. (I just realized my post crossed badMania's earlier one, hehe.)
It's Jia Min Yeo. This kid never ceases to amaze me! She hasn't lost a thing in the last year She just won the Cheers 2009 GS-U13. And now the GS-U11 here... and in straight sets all the way! A lot of people are now running around taking the credit for her victories Luckily, this forum has on record her incredible climb to the top... ...and the coach to applaud is former Singapore international Tan Eng Han!
These results are showed that we have many future double players, still lack of promising Single players.
now I remember him.... he used to study at Monfort... same batch as rudy hartono's grandson... in the u19 boys doubles his wristy shots caught singapore import huang chao off guarded on a number of occasions...
actually I thought Shella Devi Aulia/Anggia Shita Awanda played in the wrong age group... they looked older and were much bigger in size than Eri Octaviani Adriyana/Dian Fitriani
Who is Rudy's grandson? I thought some of them went to the US for further studies? BTW this Robin Gonansa must be from INA?
Off topic-Rudy Hartono's grandson?? or children??.. ..you guys meant his son and daughter, both of whom i knew & who went for study in the U.S. several yrs back?? He only has 1 son & 1 daughter and both are several yrs younger than me. I doubt, even if Rudy H. has grandkids, they are of elementary school age.
I was told his name is Christian Yahya Christianto http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/s...E8C7F4-EE11-4F04-A4FE-2DE6F9B237A9&player=598 http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/s...060F86D-8FA7-4A2C-96B4-C54078F72C26&player=84 Yes Robin Gonansa is from Indonesia. Wonder which club was he from before he joined the Singapore squad....
Oh this is the 'fat' boy I was thinking about. He used to have a doubles compatriat who normally beats him in singles. They may both be studying overseas, in the US maybe.
^^Oh, that Christian Yahya..^^ ..well, he is not Rudy Hartono's grandson nor has any relation to him. Actually he was in L.A., last yr, and played at a local tournament. I'm not sure if he had gone back to S'pore for good or not, but he told me he was pretty much "S'pore-sick" as he grew up in S'pore but came to the U.S. (with his younger bro who also plays) to join his parents. Still a young kid (under 20 y.o.), if i recall, but i watched him and he's quite good in comparison to the local kids his age. I could tell from his strokes and techniques that he had played & trained extensively. Here are some of his pics from that tourney (post #2 & 4). And he actually signed up to be a member of BC and made his 1st post (post #12): http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64172
Yes I saw Chris' pics and recognize Christian. And when I took another look at the scores: Christian Yahya Christianto [5/8] lost to Agrippina Primarahmanto Putera [5/8] 12-21 21-9 20-22 And indeed Agrippina is a good player as Rudy mentioned and how can I miss him during the recent Li Ning tourney? Time really flies. That was 3 years ago - that Cheers tournament.
First Djarum, then Mutiara and Suryanaga, now Jaya Raya are actively sending their young players abroad... Now only Tangkas and SGS are still dormant in increasing their financial commitments to developing young Indonesian talents... These 6 clubs are the historical pillars of INA badminton... If all 6 are competing teeth to teeth with each other, INA badminton quality will increase to a higher level than today...
PB. Jaya Raya is the GD powerhouse throughout INA Badminton history... We can expect them to continue their tradition for a loooonngggg time...
Shuttler Alcala shines in Singapore tourney Manila Bulletin (http://www.mb.com.ph) December 25, 2009, 4:33pm Mark Alcala romped away with the first Li-Ning Youth International badminton crown, besting his more fancied rivals, including Indonesia’s Ali Auliansyah, 21-19, 21-16, in the finals of the 11-under boys’ division in Singapore recently. Dishing out awesome form, Alcala upended top contender Joverian Mahesa, also of Indonesia, in three sets in the round of 16 then cruised to victories over local bets Chen Rhui Sheng and Ong Zi Jian to arrange a title showdown with Auliansyah. “He played a superb game and with confidence. He knew he can beat this kids,” said team manager and coach Conrado Co, also the man at the helm of the Philippine Badminton Association youth development program under president and former First Lady Amelita “Ming” Ramos. Roberto Pineda and Ethan Malelang also teamed to earn a bronze medal in the 15-under boys’ doubles of the event, which drew participants from Chinese-Taipei, Hongkong China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Alcala and partner Keeyan Gabuelo also reached the quarterfinal round of the 13-under boys doubles while Ming Ramos Youth Cup champion Malvinne Alcala also fell short of her bid in the 15-under girls singles, reaching the quarters phase. Others who made it to the Last 8 were Gelita Castilo, another Ramos Youth Cup winner, in the 17-under girls’ singles, the Alcala-Castilo tandem in the 17-under girls doubles and the Paul Vivas and Peter Magnaye pair in the 19-under boys doubles. With one victory and a bronze medal finish in the event, Team Philippines, which gained a top 10 ranking in the world juniors in Malaysia early in the year, showed it can be at par with the world’s best, underscoring the steady rise of junior badminton in the country. (Congrats to the Philippines team, especially the Alcala siblings. )
