You have to go Thom_bad! You have to give us all the news and pictures that Raphy might not see fit to print on Badzine! (behind the scenes photos, scandals, eye candy, etc)
errr..... I also am part of the Badzine team haha And unfortunately this year Badzine won't report news from the FO as asual : http://www.badzine.fr/index.php/magazine/editos/2586-edito-des-ifb-2010-sans-badzine.html
..really????..that's a surprise news???.."as usual", meaning they didn't cover the FO the last few yrs??..any particular reason for not covering (or mind translating that article)??..
Here's a bit of high school French para-phrasing:"It is not without a certain sadness- or frustration- that I take up my pen - or my keyboard, for this editorial [regarding the French Open]. An event that I had been , without doubt, looking forward to covering for several months. SOLIBAD was born in the meantime , and my priorities have changed. It is this new foundation which motivates me more than anything else in badminton, ..." And Raphy's going to Haiti with a plane full of rackets at the time of the French Open etc etc etc. In other words the care of his fellow man has trumped coverage of the FO this year. Thank goodness for people like Raphy. (And for us baddy nuts thank goodness we still have Thom-bad at the scene!)
I've read further into Raphy's article, but my French fails me. After writing about his upcoming trip to Haiti he then refers to a problem getting Solibad recognized by the French powers that be. Then my brain starts hurting. Aidez-moi, s'il vous plait, vous membres de la Francophonie!
"Won't report news from the French Open as usual" It can actually be seen 2 ways, the first impression I got was they had always reported news from the French Open, hence usual but not this time. The second way is as how you see it.
Yep I wasn't clear on that one.. I meant they reported the news last 3 years, with a huge full coverage, and now they won't be there this year... And actually I only plan to be there on Saturday....
Raph will be going to Haiti for Solibad, so he won't be there for the super series. But, the reason why Badzine won't cover the superseries is more... political. As you know (I hope), Raph has created Solibad, a wonderful way to help people using the badminton community. Unfortunately, the french badminton authorities are not that enthousiastic about the project. And they refused to set up a Solibad information desk during the Super Series. Discouraged by this non-understandable decision, Badzine has decided to retire from this event. Personnaly, I hope it will be a shock that will make french Federation understand how positive Solibad can be. It's just absurd they can't see how great it is too to promote badminton.
Thank you for the full explanation of the Badzine -French Open controversy. Have fun at the tournament. Dont' forget your camera.
The problem is that The French Federation doesn't want to recognize projects that weren't built by them... Same problem with the players who didn't played in the "Pole Espoir" or "Pole France"...they weren't trained in the national center so they never can access the National Team (INSEP)...
Hmmmmm..... perhaps someone from the French Badminton Federation can give a language lesson . What is french for : http://mw1.meriam-webster.com/dictionary/parochialism ?
i would love to go there, too. but still not sure yet. but, would be nice if anyone can inform me cheap hotel/motel near the venue, pls? thank you
That's the problem with Paris. The nearest hotel which is the official one, has a rate that is three times that of the one for the Hong Kong Open. It's so expensive. Even Tokyo is lesser
That's probably why it's so expensive. When I was there a number of years ago, the travel agency put us into a small hotel without airconditioning somewhere in the north east. London and Switzerland had much more decent accomodations. It just shows how expensive Paris is
I know. I was looking out of my open window in the middle of the night. It was a pretty rough neighbourhood. Southwest is where the Eiffel Tower is, right?
