Yeah, James, what were you thinking? Flick serve that wasn't high enough? Good to see that you are wearing the SOTX shirt but the shoes, mate, the shoes!! You need to get new ones.
He was thinking: "This guy's smash is so crap I can take it at the net, standing upright and relaxed, with my racquet down"
It was either that or he was thinking I'll turn the lights out using my remote control and when the flick goes over I'll put them out so he'll miss it The first one looks like daylight when you started your flick and the second one night time when the shuttle went over the net, surely a time delay infringement or a bad case of shuttle tipping?
Lights... Hey James, I noticed that the gym was using the lights designed for badminton. How do you find them compared to a regular set of florescent tubes hanging down from the sides of the courts?
i find the lights very chinese cheap and effective (flourescent is cheap to buy and consume low wattage). WWC, no need to ask that question, of course they are better than lights hanging directly overhead
Peter's not asking about overhead, but side-hung ordinary fluorescent versus specialized badminton side-hung, lights
You got it! I was perusing some publications from Sports England on court design and requirements and was wondering whether these lights are better than the normal ones (the side-hung ordinary lights). Since badminton is a game where you are looking in almost all directions, I wonder if the players will actually lose sight of the shuttle as it came across at an angle against these side lights.
sorry wwc, i thought u were asking something differentn since the flourescents are already hung from the sides of the courts. No hanging lights will be perfect since the shuttle is commonly hitted above the net. The best i think is infloor lighting like cat walk, disco, runway, etc ...
almost all badminton centers here use side hung fluorescent lights but they still have blind spots. a good solution would be to place them very high but you will still get blind spots from lights on the adjacent court. its effective if youre playing on the only court with lights turned on i was surprised to see 4 fluorescent lights together in one row. normally here they use just 2.
Actually it might have been a short serve....... !!! and the shoes were new when I got there, as I didnt take any stuff with me (rackets, shoes, etc..) but bouht them when I was there. They are copies of yonex-shb90, made by a brand called UNIKO, cost me 70RMB (£5= $8US) How embarassing, i wasnt going to subject this forum to my ugly mug, but never mind. Weekey:Thanks! I am back home now, ready to take you on! Talking about my fans, I went to see the province team coach on one of my last days, and they had just finished training, and the girls team (of young age group, about 16) were walking out of the sports hall, and they all looked at me and all I could hear was chinese language, then "james...james" haha, my fame even spread to the professional team! Back home now Ready for some more playing! The lights were simply banks of fluoroescent lights hung from the sides of the court. They were good for seeing the shuttle (not in your eyes), but they were a bit dark overall (hence the dark looking photo). It was really off putting for me playing their cause everyone I felt was looking at me (my g/f put me at ease by saying, they ARE all looking at you), and people were taking pictures of me all the time, i could see them from the corner of my eye when serving and recieving.
thanks for sharing your experiences, sounds like a great time all in all! wish i could get some $8 shoes around here - i knew things in China are cheap but that's near ridiculous!
but they didnt last that long, I had to get them sewn up after two weeks playing (everyday). They are very comfortable though. Bought two more.
