After 2 year hiatus, Australian Open is back. This is a Super 300 event and it will be upgraded to Super 500 event next year. With the cancellation of Hong Kong Open (Super 500), New Zealand Open (Super 300), China Open (Super 1000), and Fuzhou China Open (Super 750), this will be the penultimate 2022 BWF World Tour before BWF World Tour Finals in mid December.

I can understand that in times of Corona it is difficult for a player to plan a tournament. But why do I then register for a tournament only to cancel it at short notice after the draw has already taken place? So there are only three seeded players in the MS, as well as only three XD left. BWF should introduce a change here as soon as possible and tournaments should only be drawn one or two days before the start of the tournament. In this case the eight players then seeded are also the eight highest ranked which PLAY the tournament.
Tournament time-table As expected massive withdrawals for AUS Open 2022, unfavorable time slot after three-week tour in Europe. Just hope the schedule on early August next year will draw more top players to show up in Sydney. In MS, both Lee ZJ and Loh KY standing at the opposite draw as these two players still need points to secure their place in Guangzhou. The clash between Lee against Lu GZ will determine their fate towards the Finals next month. Loh-Shi YQ possible rematch will happen in quarterfinal stage. An SY returns on court after took absence in Europe, a mild competition here as only several familiar names remain in the fray, Chochuwong, Okuhara and two Chinese contenders Han Y & Zhang YM. The Olympic Champions Lee Y/Wang CL reunite again, chance to renew their motivation and seeking best form to win a title amid the pull out of Indonesian pairs also world number one Hoki/Kobayashi and Indian stars Rankireddy/Shetty as well. Poor landscape in mixed doubles, Seo/Chae occupy the highest seeded position, their most serious threat probably coming from Chinese scratch combination Feng/Huang.
AO's host should redraw men'single. A lot of players withdrew and substituted by Australian players, this means that it's a super tour 10 for Lee Zii Jia/Lu Guang Zu's branch.

Very embarrassing for BWF to have so many withdrawals. The sponsor must be very annoyed and feeling like not getting value for money. Sponsorship for events is not easy to get and the world economy is not so good. People complain there’s little money in the sport but frankly speaking, the sport is shooting itself in the foot if the players don’t turn up. Better that they do not enter at all rather than enter and not turn up.
What I don't get is if tennis low level events can pay more than BWF super 750s , where are we even as a sport? This is popular in Asia and europe(?) so there should be a big enough market for more popularity and sponsors and there should be much much more advertisement on the part of bwf. Badminton is a very fast and thrilling sport.Indo , Malay, Korea, China Japan ,Denmark are major players. Not reaching its potential.
Are the players probably thinking the Finals may get cancelled with China zero Covid policy ( cities are still getting locked down as of this week). Plus, there’s still a 10day quarantine at a govt-designated location upon arrival for foreigners, right?
Badminton is still minor sport in Europe, let alone other continents except Asia. The draw date needs rectification, BWF should conduct the draw process three or five days before tournament kick-off. AUS Open draw was executed on 25th October (20 days ago), it's too long.
His semifinal outing in back to back S750 in Europe more or less has decribed fast-track development, variation and combination of defense and offensive shots.
Second seed Loh KY is barricaded by Chinese players, Li SF and highly likely Shi YQ in last eight, bottom-half draw offers much more intriguing competition than top-half section where Lee ZJ is clear favourite (barring any huge blunders) to advance into final spot. Chico Wardoyo had good start to take opening game but his pattern was so readable in next two games plus plagued by unforced errors and inaccuracy to deliver cheap points for his opponent. Meanhwile Shi YQ had trouble to break Tsuneyama patience in second game, quite casual, looks like he didn't want exert energy too much.
