But some Olympic qualifiers still participate this GP Gold including two home favourites Chou Tien Chen and Tai Tzu Ying. The world number six Tian Houwei is the highest seeded players and will be the man to beat in men's singles category as the big three - Chen Long, Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan - have decided to pull out from this tournament. Last year beaten finalist, Chou Tien Chen alongside with four Hong Kong players, Hu Yun - Angus Ng Ka Long - Wei Nan - Vincent Wong Wing Ki will pose the biggest threat for Tian to claim triumphant here. Local hopeful Tai Tzu Ying has Chinese rival to retain her 2012 homeground title, former world number one Wang Shixian and her younger compatriots Sun Yu also He Bingjiao as well are projected to trouble Tai to top podium on Sunday's final. The talented Tai will be tested by Thailand resurgent player, Porntip Buranaprasertsuk at last eight and possible opponent Sun Yu in semifinal. In the absence of elite pairs, Lee SM/Tsai CH are expected to nail men's doubles crown and barring any upsets they will be challenged by Chinese top-seed Li JH/Liu YC at last four. Bottom half of draw, Goh VS/Tan WK will find stern test in quarterfinal, the upcoming duo Huang KX/Zheng SW. Lack of participant in women's doubles department, two Chinese combinations, Luo twin sisters and two-time World Junior Champion Chen QX/Jia YF occupy top two seeds, the well-improved Malaysian pair Vivian Hoo/Woon KW and Thailand's Kititharakul/Prajongjai complete the top four seeding position. Both former world top ten mixed doubles pairs, Chan PS/Goh LY and Reginald Lee/Chau HW will exploit to scoop some ranking points to consolidate their position in Rio Olympics. Barring any upsets, they will meet Chinese youngsters in last eight, Chan/Goh v Zheng SW/Chen QC and second seed Hong Kong combination have Huang KX/Huang DP. The tournament will kick off on 12.00pm local time to stage QUALIFICATION round (5 courts) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=1C8E8E79-B91A-4FA1-8C34-501F773D9294 Players's withdrawals according to ts.com update : Chen Long (CHN), Lee Chong Wei (MAS), Lin Dan (CHN), Simon Santoso (INA), Tee Jing Yi (MAS), Awanda/Istirani (INA). LIVE TV will be started on Saturday (semifinal round).
Tournament's main draw is already started with MS R/64 matches (09.00am local time, 5 courts) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=1C8E8E79-B91A-4FA1-8C34-501F773D9294 Two Indian players, Subhankar Dey and Shreyansh Jeiswal took first game against more fancied opponent HKG shuttlers, Hu Yun and Wei Nan respectively. Men's singles second round (R/32) is scheduled on 02.25pm.
This is a real upset when you consider the rankings. The Indian player is way down below the veteran Hu Yun who is known to be a giant slayer himself.
I guess notable result and the good result for MS thus far is this. Wang Tzu Wei wins today 21-12, 21-9. I am so happy. I am a great fan of him. Chou Tien Chen wins today 21-12, 21-8. I am so happy. I am a great fan of him. Subhankar Dev win over Hu Yun today 21-13 21-8. Great fan of Hu Yun but I learn to accept that players don't win all the time. Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin win today 21-19, 21-11. Tien Houwei win today 21-8 12-7.
Almost all MS seeded players passed first round, 7th seed Hu Yun was sent packing early and 11th Hsu Jen Hao who succumbed to Qiao Bin. Another setback also created by recent SIN Superseries champion and tournament 14th seed Sony Dwi Kuncoro, lost to homester Lin Yu Hsien in rubber games.
Subhankar Dey is an Indian player to watch though we didn't get to see the match, not sure how Hu Yun played. I remember seeing one of SD's matches in the past, he looked promising. Sony Dwi Kuncoro slumped yet again for the third time in a row to an early exit, this time to Lin Yu Hsien. Chong Wei Feng went down to Huang Yuxiang. Hsu Jen Hao to Qiao Bin. What happened to Sameer Varma, conceding a walkover ?
Oops, I just praised Subhankar Dey and he got trounced by Vladimir Malkov. Next time I'd better watch the match, if available, before I comment which I usually do. Hu Yun at his age, 34, born 31 Aug 1981, is sometimes under par.
17-yr-old Gao Fangjie managed to overcome Hsu Ya Ching. Who is this Chen Hsiao Huan, giving He Bingjiao such a hard time ?
Unfortunately I haven't been able to follow the Chinese Taipei Open at all so far. Hope to catch some of the semi-final and final matches.
Not too good going by the results but mostly by the new and younger cohort. Wait and see how the top KOR players/pairs perform as the tournament goes by.
ROUND OF 16 (09.00am, 4 courts) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...8E8E79-B91A-4FA1-8C34-501F773D9294&d=20160630 *R/16 match highlights : - Tian Houwei (CHN) v Vincent Wong Wing Ki (HKG) - Chou Tien Chen (TPE) v Boonsak Ponsana (THA) - Shi Yuqi (CHN) v Wei Nan (HKG) - Qiao Bin (CHN) v Angus Ng Ka Long (HKG) - Busanan Ongbumrungpan (THA) v Chen Yufei (CHN) - Lee SM/Tsai CH (TPE) v Nayaka/Faisal (INA) - Haris/Sari (INA) v Chen QC/Jia YF (CHN) - Chan PS/Goh LY (MAS) v Prasetya/Saufika (INA) Both Malaysia and Chinese Taipei have guaranteed one quarterfinal spot in men's singles category, thanks to Chen Long and Lee Chong Wei withdrawals. The real test for tournament favourite Tian Houwei is started from this stage to meet Vincent Wong Wing Ki and then either Chou Tien Chen or Thai veteran Boonsak Ponsana at last four. At bottom half of draw, two HKG players Wei Nan and Angus Ng Ka Long will take Chinese hurdles, 2014 Youth Olympic Champion Shi Yuqi and Qiao Bin respectively. Korean women's singles lower-ranked player, Lee Jang Mi created an upset to knock out 5th seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk in straight-sets. Home hero Tai Tzu Ying and her biggest threat Chinese players progressed into second round. Tai will be tested by the qualifier Gao Fangjie while top-seed Wang Shixian has Korean youngster Kim Na Young. Nothing big surprise in doubles category so far, only mixed doubles 6th seed Huang KX/Huang DP got first round exit, lost to Malaysian duo Tan KM/Lai PJ.
Thanks always for the consistently good write up and summary. Thanks for doing a good job. Really appreciate it.
