The shortest duration of the day witnessed Zheng SW/Chen QC also Choi SG/Kim JH as well booked victory over their Aussie rivals in 15 minutes whilst Sun Yu played the longest match, 1 hour and 23 minutes to dispose Nozomi Okuhara. Second day tournament began with minor upset that Danish young star Line Kjaersfeldt who performed quite impressive lately lost to world #143 Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky but she redeemed her losing to seal second round berth in mixed doubles category, partnered with Kim Astrup against same opponent, Mainaky siblings. Women’s singles scored another upsets, Kim Hyo Min beat world number 10, P.V. Sindhu, first ever of four meetings. Then Sun Yu edged past fifth seed and recent All England champion, Nozomi Okuhara in pulsating 83 minutes battle. Newly-crowned INA Premier champion Tai Tzu Ying experienced scary escape to down Sayaka Sato. Malaysian starlet, reigning world junior champion Goh Jin Wei proved her big potential to dump Canadian Michelle Li, next she will challenge Indian mega star Saina Nehwal. It's mixed fortune for Indonesian men's singles players, Sony Dwi Kuncoro showed his experience and technical skill as former elite player, he shocked 6th seed Tian Houwei, trailed behind 9-15 at first game Kuncoro catched up to nail it, 21-16 while second game saw the left-handed Tian was mentally crumbled and simply had no idea to face his opponent. Later in the evening, Anthony Ginting thrashed 7th seed Chou Tien Chen in convincing fashion. But two Indonesian future stars, Jonatan Christie and Ihsan Maulana Mustofa couldn’t repeat their stellar performance last week, found 2013 World Junior Champion Heo Kwang Hee and Indian promising talent Sameer Verma were too hot to handle here in Sydney. Title-holder Chen Long becames the only seeded player remains in this competition, he will be tested by 2011 World Junior Champion, Zulfadli Zulkiffli tomorrow. Third seed, Chai B/Hong W have contrast outcome in just three days, finished as runner up in Jakarta then being first round casualty here, thwarted by Chen HL/Wang CL. Former All England champion Koo KK/Tan BH were forced to work extra hard to eliminate Belgian pair Dierickx/Golinski, they will up against top-seed Ahsan/Setiawan at last sixteen, a battle of Asian Games gold medalist, Doha 2006 v Incheon 2014. Other favourite, second seed Fu HF/Zhang N exhibited their good form to overcome the well-improved Japanese pair, Kamura/Sonoda comfortably. Danish new combination, Rasmussen/Fruergaard followed their teammate stunning performance Astrup/Kjaersfeldt last week at Jakarta to oust former World Champion Ahmad/Natsir, a worrying sign for one of INA best hopeful for Rio OG gold quest. Current Dubai SS Finals winner, The Adcocks were almost shown the exit door by the unranked young duo, Choi SG/Chae YJ, the English married couple digged deep to overcome the Koreans that ended 22-20 at deciding game. Hot favourite, second seed Fischer/Pedersen will meet tricky opponent, Chinese duo Liu YC/Tang JH in next stage. Most of women's doubles pairs will start their campaign on Thursday as they're awarded first round bye. As expected, Bao YX/Chen QC, Vivian Hoo/Woon KW, Fruergaard/Thygesen, Supajirakul/Taerattanachai and Huang YQ/Tang JH passed their opening test. Tomorrow's last sixteen will looking forward to two rematches of last week tournament, Huang/Tang v Pedersen/Juhl and Tang/Yu v Vivian Hoo/Woon. Top-seed Matsutomo/Takahashi should have no serious trouble to secure last eight spot and willl meet either their compatriot Matsuo/Naito or China fresh combo, Bao/Chen.
I personally would add this match into Highlight List: *R/16 Highlights : - Matsuo/Naito (JPN) v Bao YX/Chen QC (CHN) The fresh combo also have a wonderful record mixed: 2010 and 2014/2015 World Junior Champions.
Had anybody noticed pakistan XD pair in round 2? Wow. Simply amazing to see them in regular tournaments. Badminton is definitely growing.
NO played a superb hard fought match against WSX the third game ending in 21-19 in the the All England. Her court coverage and speed were exemplary. But sadly she has not been able to replicate the form lately.
That is more an indication of a poorly-participated tournament. I mean look at the number of Malaysians in the second round. LOL
Okay there are only 4 Korean players left in the second round. They are Kim Hyo Min, Jeon Hyeok Jin, Heo Kwang Hee and Choi Sol-Kyu / Kim Jae Hwan. So the question now is can this 4 players pass the second round??
Wow the Danish players have a really improved by leaps and bounds. Another upset is about to be created. Kim Astrup / Line Kjaersfeldt is about to win their XD match over a highly ranked XD.
I saw that green flag there with crescent and star, but I don't know what country is that. In Thomas cup there was this South African Jacob Maliekal who was giving a good fight to Axelsen. I remember in 90's we have Christine Magnusson, a black elite shuttler from Sweden. Great to see new countries are catching up.
Nozomi started losing her superb performance in Malaysia Open when Momota suddenly withdrew because of illegal gambling scandal. Did it affected her? I mean she was almost unbeatable between Dubai SSF and All England and after Momota's case, she almost never defeat anyone in Top 10 again, even she lost twice in a row to Sun Yu who is outside Top 10 WS.
To be honest somehow the gambling scandal involving Kento Momota, Kenichi Tago and Kenta Nishimoto have affected the Japanese badminton players to a certain extend. That is why some of the Japanese players form took a dip after that gambling scandal.
Thank you brother for your explanation. Where do you get the information to conclude that the gambling scandal have affected Japanese badminton players? Matsumoto/Takahashi pair seem not to be affected by this scandal. They only lost once in Uber Cup to Korean pair since the scandal.
XD top contender, second seed Fischer/Pedersen were sent packing Chinese relatively new partnerships, Liu YC/Tang JH, 18-21 / 16-21.
Hahaha i was talking to my Brazilian freind, i thought it's worth sharing "How Badminton is getting POPULAR"
BWF has failed miserably on all fronts in promoting Badminton.. Tennis Channel of ATP covers all 17 courts when there is a grand slam. The official ATP website is miles ahead of the BWF's two experiments. BWF's fb page is one of the strangest sport pages and seriously needs a creative admin. These are few issues that are outside of Top 10 issues why badminton is still not a popular sport.
