I decided to create a tread for discussing what junior players (regardless of nationality) we think will become good at senior level. After reading some discussion in Malaysia open tread today that the upcoming players who may challenge Axelsen are Naraoka, Kunlavut and Loh KY, I thought to myself: Those players aren´t that upcoming, they are already relatively established. Here we can discuss what younger upcoming players we think will be good. For MS I have spotted 3 potentially good players from the World Jr Championships 2022: Kuo Kuan Lin from TPE, he resembles former CHN player Lin Guipu in playing style I believe, an offensive oriented player. Kim Byung Jae from KOR, a solid alround player with good ability to control rallies, the only worry is he might end up being a doubles player and drop MS like so many other KOR players, because he played XD also at the WJC. Here is a video from when the two above mentioned players faced each other: Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul from THA, left handed, looks like Thailands Lin Dan. Here he plays Kim Byung Jae at 5:25:00 Feel free to comment or add to the tread
Ya agree that all them are quite promising. Another one is Alex Lanier who is like 17 from France. Too early to say how he will develop Internationally in the adult categories but I think his results on the European Circuit suggest he has potential to be competitive in Europe for sure. I personally think he has more potential than the Popovs at this time.
Here´s a video of Kuo Kuan Lin playing Ng Tze Yong, it went to 3 games. One thing that is bad nowadays for the Jr players is that there seems to be few top senior tournaments which offer qualifying rounds, that used to be a good way to get to watch the youngsters play
My opinion for MS: Korea: Kim Byung Jae India: Sankar Thailand: Panitchapon Indonesia: Alwi Malaysia: Either Justin or Eogene Taiwan: Kuo Kuan Lin No idea about China or Japan Sent from my SM-A136B using Tapatalk
Does anyone know what has happened to KOR player Kim Byung Jae? As far as I know he hasn't played internationally at all since the WJC in october. KOR really need a good MS player, how come he isn't playing tournaments?
