Hi all, For once, I actually have a question about a Yonex racquet! I noticed in one of my badminton books (it's a Swedish one), that 85% of the players in the photos (international players) were using the same Yonex cab racquet. The book is from 1987, so I guess the photos would be taken from 1980-87... It's also the same racquet that were used by Ricky & Rexy when they won over Cheah & Yap in the Atlanta finals 1996 (actually if I remember correctly Yap was also using the same racquet!). It's a black shaft & frame, with a mustard yellow T-joint and cap on the handle. It was just amazing seeing this racquet appearing in picture after picture... it seems to have been THE racquet for both doubles and singles players. So... what model is it?
Thanks. Judging from the product reviews here, the old version seems to be THE one. By the way, did all older cabs have this design, with the brightly colored T-joint and cap? I've seem black & red ones too, not sure which model that could have been.
Mag, there is the Carbonex 8, which was much more popular than the 9 (more economical?). in the Cab8, instead of the yellow T and cone, they are either red or blue... kwun
So does anyone know how these racquets compare to today's high end racquets? They must be about 20 years old by now... But sometimes I see that people still use them today!
Re: That's easy... Cab 9 Kelvin, Gold and Silver colour. I got one at home but they are difficult to come by now. Mine was bought in M'sia in a small country shop.
Cab 9 is a bit head heavier than the other Yonex racquets. Still very playable though and the frame can really take high tensions no problem.
I have a Carbonex 8 (with red cap) for sale at just S$20. It is used for less than five hours of play. Comes with full cover. Interested?
Well, I'm actually very happy with what I've got racquet-wise. My question was mainly of historical interest. The price seems reasonable enough though! If I buy it it would be more or less as a museum piece... Problem is I'm in Stockholm, Sweden... but I guess that could be solved.
Hi Mag, Well, I have read all the replies to your post and I must say that I am still using one of my oldest rackets occasionally, which happens to be a Carbonex (Cab) 8. It might be the Cab-8DX version, but I haven't used it for the last months, so I have to check it. Greetings, Erwin.
I am still using my old cab8 sp blue version. If I am not mistaken,I've own my cab8 for about 10 years already.I've had uncountable clashes with it and it is still solid, but there are alot of scratch marks on the frame and the t-joint.I still love my cab 8. Here's a picture of my cab8.
I asume you are asking me.I am currently using BG85 and the tension is only 22lbs.I do not dare to use higher tension.I had also tried BG65-ti, but the result was not encouraging.BG85 gives more power and control to my old cab8.
Woah! Nice pic But is it me or, hmmm your racquet seem to be a bit crooked. The bottom right part at around 5 O'clock seem to be a bit rectangular.
I agree Yeah, I also think that the head frame is a bit deformed. Is it because the stringer strung it unevenly? Why does this happen?I am a bit suspicious about the stringer's skill. The problem is, he is the only stringer that is near to my place.I notice that the first cross string starts from the ninth hole.Shouldn't it starts from the eighth hole? Here's a picture. Thanks
