Thread: Back to Taipei

    By the way, people, I talked to the owner of the store about my crazy thoughts about the stringing, which is about, use BG80 for main string and use BG-65 for horizontal string.......or other combinations.....

    she say it sounds ok..... but don't know the performance would be......
    Well, I guess I will have to try all of the combinations then!!

    bluejeff, i dont' follow your logic. Yonex in Taiwan run by Yonex Taiwan and run by Yonex Japan, why is there a difference in quality?

    if Yonex chose to supply TW rackets to Taiwan and if those rackets are indeed lower in quality, then it wouldn't matter who runs the local distributor......... no?

    Oh, no no no......sorry for the confusion.

    There is no longer a Yonex-Taiwan, Now there is only a Yonex-Japan in Taiwan..... and all of the inventory are ordered and shipped from Japan directly.
    So, this makes the TW goods the same quality as JP......since everything will be imported from JP.....even those low end goods.

    Also, All stores/distributors must order their goods from Yonex-Japan in Taiwan......

    BJ, a bit more clear. but still not 100%.

    so do rackets nowadays have "JP" country code?

    if so, then really cool.

    but if not, ie. still TW code, then what's the difference in quality than before except for the distributorship?

    i think if Yonex chooses to distribute directly, but they send the same batch of TW rackets to Taiwan, there may just be no difference at all...

    i think to combat rampant counterfeiting. Customers will then know for know the yonex racquets in the yonex store are real, be it TW or not TW

    Yonex try to eliminate the possibility of raising cost of racquets, for example:

    Yonex->Dealer->Stores
    This is like before, as you see, there is a dealer in between, so the racquets' price will be slightly higher at the stores.

    Yonex->Stores
    This is like now, the stores directly deal with Yonex Japan (it's office in Taiwan)....so the cost of racquets is lower than having a dealer in between.

    The country code is still TW, however, now all Yonex racquets are from Japan......even the low end racquets, too. (It used to be low-end would be made in Taiwan or elsewhere)

    Also, by doing this straight-distributing, it further helps to stop the fake racquets...... (that's what the store people told me although I am not understanding 100%)

    I think it is more like
    Yonex->Dealer->Stores = $$$ profit for Yonex, $$ for Dealer

    Yonex->Stores = $$$$$ profit for Yonex

    I have visited this story yesterday! The first thing I notice is they have a lot of kennex rackets. The recommended tension of the AT-700 is the same on the web site of yonex(japan). The string machine is very impressive. It has six-point supports. I will string my racket in the store next time.

    Well, the store I went to has a very complete line ups of Yonex...and I got:

    MP-99 (3U) with BG-85 (21x22)
    Re-string my ISO-TI-SP-SR with BG-85 (20x21)
    2 Grips (blue and thick-style)
    1 Tube of Victor shuttles
    2 Yonex cool looking shirts

    All of above for 6090NT...... which is about $174USD......
    I think it's a pretty good deal

    By the way, if people want me to bring back Gosen racquets.....I am sorry that I didn't see any of Gosen in stores I know......

    PS:
    1. By the way, the store has the AT-700, and it's about the price of 115USD, the same price as Ti-10, MP-100, and 99
    2. The stringing service I got from the store is outstanding!! The numbers are not just regular pounds, they are FULL pounds (that is, 21x22 actually feels like 24x25), very impressive. I believe the store has strung over 60000 racquets in past 20 years.......very impressive skills and the stringing pattern is very unique.

    I just got back from Taipei too, went to that shop, got a couple of Yonex Polos, then went around the area, found out a few more sport/badminton equipment shops around by asking the customers in there. The prices are about the same, however, we did find a cheaper shop that's out of the area, but also in Taipei. Here's the address:

    No.62, Wunlin Rd., Shihlin District, Taipei City 111, Taiwan (R.O.C.)

    Phone No. 0932-640-041

    It's right across the street from Shih-Lin night market, the store name is "Xie-Li sport equipment). Owner's last name is Lin Rong Fu (Mr. Lin) around his 50s, who also plays badminton.

    Price difference...

    Yonex 6 racquet bag:
    Shop mentioned by BlueJeff -->1200NT ($35USD)
    Xie-Li Sport --> 1000NT ($29USD)

    Yonex Polo:
    Shop mentioned by BlueJeff --> 650NT ($19USD)
    Xie-Li Sport --> 600NT ($17USD)

    The listing price are the same between the 2 shops, but you can ask for a lower price, and is the the price we got.

    If you need the address in Chinese, PM me.

    Sorry LB, I didn't pay much attention of the string price, however, you can ask your friends to call the phone number to check before they go. (if they call, they can ask for the address in Chinese too...)

    Good luck.
