So some people have mentioned that the grip sizes have increased a bit, with the most notable being G5. Does any have specific numbers? I've always referenced G5 as 83mm and G4 as 86mm. I know for certain that they've changed because I recently compared G5's of an early 2007 AT700 and a late 2007 Arc7 and found a noticable difference. I'm mostly just wondering about these two things: - Has G4 changed too? - If so, is the new G5 the same or slightly different from the old G4.
ahh I thought I'm the only one feeling they are different. my at900t which I bought november last year and other rackets I bought march this year feel so different (grip size) all of them g5.
When did the new grip measurements start? 2007? 2008? According to the Yonex 2008 Japan catalogue the grip sizes are as follow G6 - 78mm G5 - 81mm G4 - 84mm
if not mistaken, yonex did change the grip shape, not size. maybe due to the shape changes, we feel it smaller or bigger from previous grip shape.
Really? That might actually make sense because the old G5 felt thinner and flatter, whereas the new G5 felt a rounder. So if this is true, they may have just reproportioned the bevels for a rounder shape. Still, it felt considerably different to me though, as if it almost went up to G4.
Now that you mentioned it, yeah it does feel differnet. Compare it to my Arc7 to NS9K, 900T and older rackets. The Arc7 G5 does feel slightly bigger then the others. I actually like the size and feeling on the Arc7 better.
Found out info. The grip sizes exactly the same. The measurements of the girth the grip is referring to the wood handle. The only reason why it feels different is because of the stock grip is different, that is why we notice that the new Arc Saber rackets feels thicker comparing racket other rackets of the same grip size. For instance NS grip - 1.6mm ARC grip - 1.65mm
If the new Yonex handle is getting rounder then it is more in line with handles made and used in China.
That is a really small difference. Circumference is 2 * PI * r. The differences between the two different stock grips is approximately 0.31mm 2 * 3.14 * (r + 1.6) = (6.28r + 10.05)mm 2 * 3.14 * (r + 1.65) = (6.28r + 10.36)mm If the difference between Yonex grip sizes is 3mm that is a 1/10th of a grip size difference.
I am not too sure about this. A Yonex China catalog shows G5=83mm, G4=86mm, and G3=89mm. Besides, I find these figures agree with Yonex racquets with their grips on, not off.
Yeah it's it is a small difference looking at the numbers. The feeling is definately noticable. Also with the different thickness, would most likely be a difference in the cushion as in how much you can press into the grip.
