    hello guys,

need some advice here...i am intermediate to advanced player in doubles..most of the doubles game we can win, like 8/10 times. but when it comes to singles, i lose half of the time, even to junior DOUBLES players which hardly touch singles before. like to know is there some basic strategy/technique that i do not know of? when i play singles, i usually dun do any fancy shot..just hit to the far backhand of my opponent and when i caught them off guard and returned a short i will use that opportunity to kill off the game. drop shots and net shots i have kept it to the minimum. not sure is my illustration is clear enough...hope some bros here can give some tips to improve my singles games :)

How do you usually lose points in singles?

That makes your game very predictable and your opponent dont have to move around much...

Footwork and how to move. You can get away by not having great footwork in doubles but in singles, you really need to know how to control your body and legs to move efficiently.

Not having a netgame makes it easy for the opponent.

At a professional level of play, normally the player that plays best at the net is the winner, because by playing the net well, your opponent will lift. This gives you the chance to attack!

That's def true for the pros.
For beginners/intermediates, usually the player that plays the best and most consistent clears and has decent footwork will win in singles...

So true. I don't usually play singles, but played 2 games last week... getting clears and high serves of good length into the rear tramlines and corners will win half the game.

If want to play single, drop shot is a must, otherwise your opponent knows your style and will stand at the back to wait for you.

In real estate, it's location, location, location. In badminton, it's footwork, footwork, footwork.

It sounds as though you rely a lot on power to win the points, which can work in doubles but playing singles is a different ball game. As you're the only person covering your side of the court, you need to be able to move quickly and efficiently whilst making the correct shot.

So like everyone says, work on your foot work - shuttle runs and corners springs to mind. Simple but affective. :)
