As the shuttle move towards you high, move to find a good distance behind the shuttle, imagine you are reaching up the shelf with your hand held up, you are all relax, breath in. Pull your hand down in a swift motion, imagine pulling something heavy down the top shelf. Exhale as you hit the shuttle. Practise until you can hit the shuttle slightly below the centre point of your racket face. If u hit it above the centre point the shuttle will go flat. Good luck practising :)

Also, if u hit it too low below the centre of the racket face, ie nearer to the shaft, smash will be too steep, shuttle land on own side of court.

Finding the balance between swing timing and point of contact on racket face is the key IMO.

    Jump higher?
The steepness of your smash will depend on how far back you are from net and how high you can get at the point of contact.
Otherwise it's just a timing issue where you hit it as early and high as you can (before the shuttle drops too low) and far enough in front of you to get the correct angle to just clear the net.

You are not far enough behind the shuttle - take the shuttle further in front, and you will get a steeper angle. Make sure you use your "wrist" at the end to help snap the shuttle downwards.

As others said, a high contact point is very important. Jumping higher will not help you YET - if you can't hit steeper without jumping, your timing is wrong on your standing smash. As you improve the timing, get further behind the shuttle etc, you can then start jumping more.

    Good luck!

    Plastic shuttles fly flatter.

try to concentrate on having your hitting zone away and INFRONT of you. When you smash and it goes straight like a drive usually because of pre-non-relaxed grip, then your hand and arm take over hitting it using more of your muscle then with your body. Every good hit generate right off root from your feet, not by pure muscle power from arm. And most importantly, check your grip. If you grip like panhandling, forget about the hit and try changing it and get used to the right grip.
