Really impressed with Riichi Takeshita. I had closely followed Japanese players during Thomas Cup. All were good, but really like the way Riichi played against Lin Dan few days back. He had everything to match Superdan. Yesterday saw Riichi Vs Lin Dan match and was totally blown away with his approach. Havent seen Lin Dan stretch that much against any opponent in recent times, LCW and CL included! Infact Riichi beat him at net so much so that Lin Dan avoided playing him at net. Everyone is going gaga about Kento Momota but wouldn't be surprised if Riichi surpasses him! Wanting him to win this tournament!
It turned out the Russian Vladimir Ivanov emerged MS champion, not entirely unexpected for me except that his beating Richii Takeshita whose current form seems impressive is. Ivanov lived up to his top seed billing. Congrats to him.
Vladimir underestimates himself too much. He is a great player with phenomenal reach. Concentrates too much on doubles rather than on singles. He has defeated some top rated players on a regular basis.
The towering Vladimir Ivanov defended his title and denied Japan clean sweep here to defeat Riichi Takeshita in rubber games, congratulations!
