Can you post / link to registrant list? Interested to see who can challenge in MD. Nehwal v Zhang should be nice match to see in WS.
Awesome, thx, just learned where to find the M&Q sheets now. MS and WS look very interesting with no clear pick. Perhaps ZBW for WS with the strength of her recent play. MD Goh and Tan may be in a class of their own, but so nice to still see Tony, Halim, and Dean on the courts.
I played against him a long time back when he was in full pirate mode and he kicked my butt Yeah bummer about Halim, smash still strong. I wish him and Tony would pair more often.
MS title will surely go to india in Canada, U.S., and Russia open tourneys. Sent from my 1201 using Tapatalk
Strong MS contingent from india with the likes of sameer verma, HS prannoy and kashyap parupalli leading the charge. Sent from my 1201 using Tapatalk
Agree that India is bringing the heat. HS Prannoy showed fantastic form in Indonesia Open. Momota is a potential dark horse, very early to tell what level he's playing at. Uncle Lee Hyun Il also still shows the ability to beat top players when pushed.
Hmm..in Anaheim, CA... Tempting to go. No INA players participating? Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
a couple of players made the main draw. nobody i'm familiar with. check here: http://system.bwfbadminton.com/uplo...rsion 1 (Updated Friday, 16th June 2017).xlsx tony gunawan is playing. does that still count?
Wish a bigger pool of top order players made their way here. Hope bigger venues, fun sponsors and cooler activities are associated with the event so we can attract the best of the best. If you lose in the early rounds, hey, your sponsor can send you to disneyland or universal studios with your significant others and/or kids (veterans like LD, LCW, LHI etc) . And oh, someone get taufik hidayat back to play on US soil!
it's only a gp gold. 99% of players are the up and coming future stars. occasionally you get top 10 players looking for a tune-up when coming back from injury or needing a quick ranking point boost. when you see a group of top 10 players at a gp gold it's usually their local tournament or not too far to travel. this year's venue will be the biggest in u.s. open history. the cost is a major gamble & it'll likely look very empty on finals day. finding significant ($) sponsors for u.s. badminton events is harder than pulling teeth. it's a waste of everyone's time & money soliciting the mom & pop type nickel & dime amounts (< $500). it cheapens the title of the tournament and the cost of making them a decent looking sign takes most of it. you want to sponsor/help out w/ $500? buy a block of tickets. heh heh... unfortunately that has proven to be zero incentive. btw, lhi, defending champ, is playing again. who wouldn't be up for that? have JStandard1 make some calls
TWK/GVS withdrawn already on 19th June. I think they will stay focus for World Championship in Glasgow. Kento Momota finally withdrawn from reserved list. Maybe it should be better if Kento Momota do register in Russia GP in order to get early points required for his starting points. The contrary happen in MS Russia GP when the main draw only have 44 players of 64 players capacity. It's so pity for Momota that he only get 1 tournament in his bag. It means only 5,000 points if he wins Canada GP. Maybe more points in US GPG makes him forget about the possibility to play in US GPG while he has zero point actually.
bummer. on the other hand, on paper they should've blown away the rest of the draw. that's not usually very entertaining. on the bright side 8 of the top ten ms players will have very competitive matches in the 1/4's. pablo abian is fun to watch. what a character. he loves playing to the crowd. there are still a few other ss/p players and other rising stars sprinkled around the draws. saina nehwal, beiwen zhang, lee so-hee, shin seung-chan, choi solgyu, chae yoo-jung, kim jae-wan, kim ha-na, kaneko/inoue, arisa higashino, tan kian men/lai pei-jing... on the whole gp gold tournaments are always worth watching because the competition is close. there aren't many one-sided blowouts at all by the round of 16.
lots of new and hungry middle tier talent at gp golds. looking forward to that! oh, didn't know that. yep, very true. i was part of the organizing team at a few regional/provincial level events so i know how hard that can be. you need the right highly places people at the right time pulling in all the right favors; and also compromising on a lot of things, which means uneven budgeting and sometimes leads to a lack of professionalism. ooh, pardon my ignorance, but is JStandard1 a secret celebrity in the baddyworld or a top ranked official or something? speaking of incentives, we need the hottest cheerleaders and date auctions and lucky draws and stuff to fill in more seats, ahem
