Hi, I noticed that there aren't any women Pro players from Malaysia who're from the majority Malay origin. Even most of the Men players are from the ethnic Chinese. So my question is why there are not any female Malay players, even though Badminton is very popular in Malaysia, is it due to religious reasons I wonder. Well there's nothing wrong it but just wondered why that is. You can see there are so many Malay women in the crowds in major tournament halls but not in the courts, so obviously they love their badminton but what's stopping them to become professional players? I'm aware that in Malaysia you have Malays as the majority population, followed by ethnic Chinese and then Indian populations.
Hello, You made an interesting point. The fact that a female professional player is from Malaysia of Malay descent can actually be influenced by a variety of factors, including cultural, social and historical dynamics. Cultural and religious considerations may play a role, but it's important to remember that individual choices and opportunities also play a role.
With the current generation of girls idolising kpop idols, I foresee the future having even lesser female athletes. Sorry if this comment sounds very derogatory
hahaha that's a bit stereotying.. In the area Im playing I actually see as much female compared to male players. I also seen a few Malay female players in the BAM YT channel. Also watched some pretty competent junior players recently.so they are there.
Some years back Singapore had a pro player by the name of Zarinah Abdullah. If my memory serves me correct she was once ranked as high as world no. 9. Long since retired now but last I remembered she had been coaching locally in Singapore. Perhaps there’re others here who might know more.
Now Female players from Arab countries (particularly Saudi Arabia) are started participating in Tournaments.. It will change the mindset in other countries (people) with similar belief!.
