LD hasn't been in "top committed" for a while. What's the rank for single to be "top committed"? Wasn't it top 15? I know it's top 10 for the doubles. Or I was mistaken and it was top 20 for singles? Anyway, I just checked and for singles it's top 15 are the "top committed" players. LD hasn't been in top 15 for months now. I supposed that rule shouldn't apply to him?
No, you are not mistaken, but Lin Dan was #13 on the only date that matters: Players occupying the top 15 places in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles, and the top 10 places in Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles of the World Ranking as at the third week of November the year before the relevant BWF Sanctioned Tournaments (“Top Committed Players”)will be required to play in the following Tournaments occurring in the full Calendar year
Really? I thought it was only regarding the least number of tournaments one required to play as top committed.. What vague wordings and rules by BWF. Just checked BWF news article https://bwfworldtourfinals.bwfbadmi.../final-push-for-last-qualifiers-to-guangzhou/ "There is only one vacant spot in men’s singles. Chinese Taipei’s Wang Tzu Wei has the strongest chance as he is in eighth and ahead of closest contender Ng Ka Long Angus by over 3000 points, but there is a possibility for four others in the draw – Ng Ka Long Angus, Lin Dan, Kantaphon Wangchaoren and Kanta Tsuneyama. Lin Dan will sense his chances in the draw, as he takes on Lee Dong Keun in the first round, followed by either Heo Kwang Hee or Lin Yu Hsien." So BWF is contradicting themselves?
furthermore: 2.2. Any Players who, in addition to the Players above, occupy places in the top 15 in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles, and the top 10 in Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles of the World Ranking as at the first week of July before the relevant BWF Sanctioned Tournaments will also be deemed “Top Committed Players” and will be required to play in all Level 1-3 BWF World Tour Tournaments occurring in the remaining Calendar year and a minimum of 3 BWF World Tour Level 4 Tournaments. if in january of a new year the current top 15 start to suck badly and lose 1st round in every tournament or not even enter any, or only a couple tourneys (by paying the fine), 15 new breakthrough stars can overtake the top 15 by july which will give bwf 30 'top committed players.' one possible minor fallout would leave only 2 open spots in the draw for any wt class tournament occurring after july. yes indeed. in the case of doubles it's more possible because 'top committed' is only 10 pairs. as unlikely of a scenario that is, the regulation has no way to deal with even half of it. basically bwf left open the possibility of 16 to 30 players having top committed status. quick examples for nov 22 2018 (top committed start date) to today: ms - there are now 18 classified top committed. Khosit PHETPRADAB (THA) was 15th going in, fell to #19 by july 2019, is now #35. ws - there could be 19 top committed. Gregoria Mariska TUNJUNG was 15th, now #23. Nitchaon JINDAPOL was 14th to start then dropped to #27 by the reclassification date of july 02 2019, is now #21. there is no rule regarding falling out of the top committed status if you're simply not as good as you were last year and/or many others are breaking through. 2.8. Top Committed Players are allowed to play a maximum of four Grade 2, Level 5 Tournaments unless BWF give a special exemption or provided that the Player participates in all Grade 2, Level 1-4 Tournaments. World Ranking Points will be deducted for participating in more than four Tournaments if the requirements of clause 2.8 are not met. i have the a most obvious ?'n if the req's of 2.8 are not met... how many world ranking points are deducted? 13, 130, 1,300 or 13,000? where is the defined answer published? the ignorance of bwf's thought process, well, more of a lack thereof, is both hilarious and sad. all the new regulations they came up with are nothing but a brainstorm of half-written ideas with no clarity, conclusion or consequence. i see you are new here...
Basically Race of Guangzhou point calculation is so complicated and raising debatable issue, we must wait the amendment (if any) after 2021.
Yeah, there are still some issues with the top committed players who play in more than 4 WT100/WT300 tournaments. Not many players are fully aware of the BWF rules.
BWF is making a mess of themselves.. The tour Finale should use the WorldRanking at the end of that tournament. or , It is the best of 8 players or pairs in the world. Those players play in Superseries, its not as if they are not eligible for SS. Therefore, it is way enough to give them 15 chances of tournaments to proof themselves.
Race of Guangzhou Final Standing has been released : https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/ranking/ranking.aspx?rid=211 MS WS MD WD XD
She's qualified automatically as reigning world champion. Here's BWF press release about World Tour Final qualifiers : https://bwfworldtourfinals.bwfbadmi...9/11/26/wang-antonsen-among-finals-debutants/
It refers to latest Guangzhou ranking (26 Nov) so Sindhu will not get any seeding position. Chen YF (1), Intanon (2), Yamaguchi & Okuhara (3/4).
What is wrong with BWF people. It's 8th December and still the schedule for World tour finals hasn't been announced? When will they be announcing the group details?
Strange arrangement for promotional event prior to group stage drawing, two XD pairs (Wang/Huang & Chan PS/Goh LY) and 1 MS (Anders Antonsen), they should invite WS and MD representatives as well.
