    Default footwork/stance

I've recently noticed players split step into 2 different stances, the wide stance and the racket foot forward stance depending on different situation. Could someone explain when to use each one
    thanks

    Simple,
Wide stance when you need to cover sides. E.g. When you are defending a smash. By pushing either of the legs & one step, you will be able to reach the side lines.

And racket foot forward-when you want to travel either front or back. Eg. If your oponent is near net-he may play a net shot or flick it over your head. This stance will help you to move front or back.

Please make sure that your weight is evenly distributed between both legs until you see the shuttle and decide to move.
