Not saying he can't refuse changing shuttle. But complaining to the umpire about it is just a bit too much in my book. Look at 20-19 in the third set today , after a 50+ rally where NTY is on the floor, VA goes straight to the umpire to complain. I did not see NTY taking his time between rallies during that match. Thus my comment about unsportmanship. Especially after breaking a racket on court. I don't remember much players doing that at this level.
and/or VA finally starting to slow down. also will this put more pressure on LZJ to perform well or lessen it with VA no longer in the picture.
VA is getting up there in age. Some mentions on this thread about WS. Tty,pvs, okuhara, Marin, intanon, all in there later 20s and can’t compete with the ay and asy of the world…the next gen is here! My fav gotta be kodai tho. Dude has swag Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree NTY was taking a little too long to get ready for the serve. He also perspire a lot hence the wet floor. But there weren't many changing of shuttles which normally used as a delaying tactic.
I don’t dispute the racket breaking some weeks ago. But in a case where it is a matter of opinion, which it is when it comes to breaks and shuttle changing, “poor sportmanship” is not the right term. I agree that a break after a 50+ rally is fair enough. I think VA reacted to the way NTY first sat down after the rally.. and then decided to lie down. It was also match point time so every little trick in the book was used. For example, NTY also found a tricky serve at the end
What a riveting match, Ng Tze Yong vs Viktor Axelsen, from beginning to end, I was on the edge of my seat ! And my emotions went from "Wow!" when NTY took the first set , lost the second and in the decider was 19-15 up!, then it became "Arrgh" when NTY dropped the next five points to stare defeat in the face, 19-20, but no, it's not over yet, when NTY forced deuce and even grabbed the final two points 23-21 to emerge on top, I let off a " Yay! " Attaboy Ng Tze Yong !
I was told Yuta is injured. No details of what happened. I would like to know the details too. Sent from my SM-N986B using Tapatalk
VA still 29 though. not yet past his prime, but probably past his peak. not everybody could be like LCW and LD that still won a lot after age of 30. as for the WS, yeah totally agree that currently this is the yamaguchi era with ASY and CYF. still hoping for TTY to atleast get 1 gold (olympic or world) and RI to get a olympic medal before they totally decline.
I am the one overreacting? I am not the one calling bad sportsmanship over an appeal to the umpire. Besides, what AA has been doing for years is exactly what VA was complaining about today and yesterday.. taking breaks. So they can’t both be doing something bad, right?
from watching that match, he couldnt even stand - it did also look like he was trying to play through the injury until his leg gave in pointed to his calf area when the tournament doctor came
I watched the livestream. He played a shot, made two "normal" steps and then did lay down in pain. Left foot / ankle / calf .. i dont know
Amazing match between VA and NTY. I was very impressed by NTY duing the commonwealth games and looks like he has taken another step now. Leaves the MS title wide open now with VA out. Seems like VAs incredible form has finally run out though. Lost to KV in India open, had matchpoint against him versus Christo Popov in the European mixed team championships, needed 3 games and didn't play particularly well Tuesday and now lost today. On the other hand AA looked the best I've seen him in a long long time.
